When I pulled up to the church to pick Gabe up, right away I heard the sound of his laughter on the playground. A good sign. When Mrs. Edwards told the kids to line up at the gate and get their backpacks, Gabe was one of the first in line. Another good sign. Then I noticed he was wearing different clothes than what I had dressed him in. Hmmm. When Mrs. Edwards opened the gate for Gabe, she told me he had had a little accident (probably from waiting too long to actually go to the potty, I'm sure). I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another. At least this wasn't too big of a deal. He was worried I would be upset, though. I reassured him, praised him for doing all the right things at school, and we went on our way.
Today was a great day! Becky and I survived our first "Muscle Max" class (man, am I sore), and Gabe did well staying in a different nursery at this new Y-express we went to. After a delicious and well-deserved breakfast at the ole Cracker Barrel, we were off to school. He went right in, cheerful and excited, promising to be "a good boy". And he was. The afternoon went off without a hitch, he was still happy (and dry) when I picked him up, and was so excited to show me his "work" from the day.
The bad news is, he is off of preschool for four days (only goes M-T-W). I hope we don't have to start all over on Monday. I really think he is getting the hang of it (and I am, too).
Now, it's off to work for the night for me, saving lives and cleaning up poop; what all ICU nurses do best, huh, Jen?

I had to go back thru and read. I think there is always one much tougher child to raise when you have more than one. I tell everyone that Mercede is my tough child, but really it was my older son. But he has been out of my home for over 5 years, so I tend to forget how hard it was to raise him.
Sounds like he is learning and will do much better.
Isn't that the best part of our job. I did it today and you are going to continue tonight.
Anyway, I am glad that things got better. I hope they will continue this way.
Good to hear things got better with Gabe. It's a learning process.
Thanks for being an ICU nurse. My dad was in ICU for 5 months in 05' I really got to know the nurses and respect your job so much more now. You have to be a special person to do that job!!
How are you today? After last night, I mean. Wait, don't answer that question...go to BED! We can discuss later...
I am so glad it went better and as you said, you are off for 4 days, that may be a GOOD thing. Not a bad!
See you Saturday!
Hang in there. It seems so awful in the moment and then those sweet little souls get it and life is wonderful again.
I'm so glad to hear that things are going better. I guess it just took him a little time to get adjusted.

Oh, Heather, I am so glad that you had some sunshine after the storm. I think it is especially hard for us mothers when we think we have it all figured out about our kids and then they throw us for a loop. It sounds like his preschool teacher is incredibly longsuffering and kind--how wonderful! I hope you can relax a little and not feel so guilty--if that is possible for any mom! :)
Thinking of you!
