Random Wednesday

Christ Hospital is requiring all of their nurses to have their Bachelor's degree by 2020.  They are paying for everything but the books, and the professors come from University of Cincinnati to either the hospital or the School of Nursing right next door.  After this quarter, I will be one-third of the way done.  However, for the next two quarters (January through May), I will be at school for seven hours EVERY Tuesday.  In addition to working my two 12-hour night shifts per week.  I'm trying to stay positive, but I have to honestly say that I am dreading it.  I'm going to enjoy every bit of this English class I'm in for the time-being.

At the end of summer, Elijah wanted to sign up for fall baseball and fall basketball.  I was hesitant; we have a one-sport-at-a-time kind of rule, and with him starting junior high, we didn't want his grades to suffer. After much discussion, we decided to let him try.  Not only did he do a great job balancing his school and sports, he managed to get a "Student of the Week" award yesterday for doing such awesome work in Spanish class.  And I was worried about Junior high...

Gabe has had to "move his apple" three times now in kindergarten.  His version always includes a kid named Braxton or a kid named J.C. "making him do it".  I tell him only HE is in control of his choices; however, if the combination of Gabe and Braxton or Gabe and J.C. is always a bad one, why is his teacher still pairing them up?  Guess I'll have something to talk about during conferences, hmmm?

We are preparing for the big Practice 5K race for Girls on the Run next Wednesday.  I can't wait to see how Isabel does this year!  The official race is November 20th, and we are working hard on our goal of every girl running the race and finishing in decent time.

Joe has decided to start his own business, in addition to teaching (for now).  He is so talented at home repair and tiling that he wants to try his hand at making some money from it.  I am cautiously optimistic about this venture...

I have been making lots of cards lately, about eight a day.  My goal is to make packs of cards called "Four Seasons of Greetings", with cards for spring/summer/fall and winter.  I may sell some, but mostly they will be gifts for friends and teachers.

I adore this time of year.  Cool, crisp mornings; trees blazing with color; wearing sweaters and layers of clothes with my favorite boots; making pumpkin anything to go with my pumpkin-spiced coffee; homemade soups for dinner; my birthday at the end of this month; Halloween.

We are planning a big vacation and I am getting so excited!  Although it's frugal year, we did get a great deal on this trip and couldn't pass it up.  My in-laws are coming along, too.  We are going to make some GREAT memories!

Any random thoughts going on in your head this morning?  Any big trips planned?  Wanna buy some cards?

WOW!!! Lots happening! hang in there - school wont last forever... though it may feel like it in that 7th hour of each Tuesday!

Look at your little brainy sports boy! Mr. All American! :) And yeah, why set Gabe next to someone who you KNOW they're not going to get along. That's just temptation right there. Set some chocolate in front of her & see if she eats it!

Go girls on the run!!! I know Isabel is going to kick butt!!!!
Fingers crossed for Joe in his business adventure. Worth trying - right?

You should put up a blog with examples of your cards... I'm totally interested in buying some!!! After the one you sent me - I think if people really saw how fantastic they are, they'd buy them too!

You never know, that seven hours may just fly by. And it's only one day of the week. Look at me -- trying to be optimistic! :)

Your family is doing great. So many things going on.

I've been making Thanksgiving and Christmas cards to sell at the pottery show. They are finally letting us bring other mediums that we do outside the arts center. Maybe someone will be interested. :-)

Sounds like life is going good.

Poor Gabe. It's not his fault. The devil made him do it. LOL.

UGH. As a person who is self - employed all I can say is...Don't Do it. But, that's just me.

I sometimes wish Eric would do a side business like that. He is so handy and he really enjoys it! It would ease some of our financial woes, but I honestly don't see how we can fit anymore in.....sigh.

I don't envy your schooling venture. You'll feel accomplished when you're done, but the time it takes to get there can be sooooo stressful!

Alrighty....Gabe's ventures sound a lot like Michael's when he was that age. He'll get the hang of it! I promise. The beginning of every year with Michael is a huge adjustment. He just doesn't know when to NOT talk.

I cannot think of a better teacher gift than handmade cards! I was quizzing my friend who is a principal about holiday gifts for teachers last year, and she said, "Just no mugs. Okay?" Kind of funny.

I'm looking forward to reading about your big trip and think your hubby's new venture sounds great. If only we lived close by, I would totally hire him to retile my bathroom. I'm sure it would seal the deal to get our house sold!

Makes me smile thinking of you in your sweater with your pumpkin coffee.

As for the seven hours, you can do it! Pack snacks and if that fails, make a list of worse things you could be doing with those seven hours.

Even though school is still school at least they are footing the bill this time around. Positives in everything right?!

I love the card idea! And you make some fabulous cards my dear.

Just finalized plans for a visit with two of our pals to see PA2. Wish you could be with us this time too!!

You are certainly going to be busy, but will having your degree raise your salary? Hope so!

Random has been the word of the day here - my lastest post is random photos - I'm off work for a few days nursing my doggie back to health (she was attacked by a large dog and almost killed;) doctor's orders are for her to "do nothing but sit and watch tv for two weeks." Yeah, right. The only way to keep her still is for ME to sit and watch tv. So I've been RANDOMLY surfing, RANDOMLY picking tv shows, RANDOMLY napping, etc.

Would you be interested in nursing a 15 month old furball of energy for the next week and a half?

Jealous of your upcoming vacation, as it is making me wonder when we will ever be able to do one again. Sooner than it feels right now, I know.
If you ever need to make a pitstop in Loveland on the way home this winter, know that you're always welcome!!
O. seems to have gotten himself into quite the kindergarten trio of boys as well. So far, he's not the one getting into trouble, but the stories he tells me lead me to believe it's not long. I wonder the same thing about why they keep being allowed to be together!
