Party Hardy!

Before I had any kids of my own, I babysat for a family of five, and the mom and I became the best of friends. Now her children are grown, and we live over an hour away from each other, but she is still my "model" for the kind of mom I want to be. When Renee had a birthday party, she invited friends and family, made a homemade cake, had tons of yummy (homemade, of course) food, and everyone always had a great time. I have had little kid parties for Elijah and Isabel, and they are cute, and the kids have fun, but I am always stressed out. So I have gone back to the kind of party where everyone has a good time, not just the kids. Juice pouches shared cooler space with beer bottles, chicken nuggets were served alongside of white chicken chili, chocolate-raspberry cake was shared by all, and (I think) we all had a ton of fun. You know those parties where you are looking at the clock, waiting until the "polite" time to leave? This was not one of those. Although a few of our friends couldn't make it due to football games, most everyone came to help celebrate Gabe's birthday. Here are some pics of the fun:

The cake. When Gabe first saw it, his eyes welled up with tears. Because it was so beautiful? No, because "I can't like those berries! My cars have chocwat on dem!". Just ask Catherine, she was witness to this. That little booger. (He did end up liking it later.)

Gabe's favorite sidedish (or main entree) is Aunt Chelle's macaroni and cheese. She made a whole bowl just for him, complete with a birthday candle. So sweet!

Our neighbors, Scott and Karen brought their adorable daughter to the party. Gabe and Keira love to play together, and I love to see how they interact. We all think Keira is just a doll...
And so strong, too!

Cousin Katlyn couldn't pass up a turn at being the big kid, pulling the little guys around. We have had this wagon for 9 years now...one of our best investments!

I didn't do any organized games this year (most of the kids were too little, and I had too many beers). But I don't think they cared. They blew bubbles, played on the playset, ran around like monkeys, played in the kids' rooms and generally were crazy. No tears at not being the "winner", no heads getting whacked at the pinata...it was all good.

Sorry, Kipper, I couldn't resist. You had your chance of deleting it off of my camera. I just love how great Catherine's husband is with the kids, and they all love him! Especially my niece, Kylee. Anyone who plays babies with her is a friend forever!

How old are you now, Gabe? Four? That can't be possible! That's how old Isabel was when you were born! I love this pic of him counting the candles.

Thank you all so much for all of the great gifts! Hot Wheels (of course), fire engines, new clothes and pajamas, trains, trucks, bouncy balls, and more Hot Wheels. What a lucky boy. And I was so grateful that he "loved" everything, and didn't once say "I can't LIKE it!". Thank goodness!

My niece, Ashley, brought her two daughters to the party; Claire is six months old, and everyone was clammering to hold her and feed her and rock her...it's been a long time since a baby was in the house. I love this one of my mom and sister feeding her, with Kylee itching to help...

Danielle brought her boyfriend, Peter, who "never smiles" for the camera. Too bad, you're still going to be on my blog, dude.

Sweet little Kylee. Man, that girl is photogenic. Lovin' her updo.

I'm not sure how many beers Rhonda had before she took this picture of Catherine and me...a little blurry, but I had to post it. I was behind the camera more often than not, so there aren't many photos of me. Which is fine, but I do want Gabe to know that I was at the party.

Or maybe it's blurry because I'm the one who had too many beers. Hmmm... Hey, it was over 90 degrees out there. And I had worked hard. And it tasted good, which beer doesn't usually do for me. What brand was that, Catherine?
This was one of Gabe's favorite presents: a crash-em-up Hot Wheels set. Still playin' it this morning.

Mamaw Kay was such a big help, slicing and serving the cake, helping organize presents, changing the kids' names on their goodie bags to be for the grownups...What would I do without you, Kay? The party just wouldn't be the same.

Obviously, Catherine had not had too much beer when she took this one of me and Rhonda. My big sis and I gave Joe and Scott a run for their money at cornhole, until it was time to eat dinner, and Joe sank FOUR cornholes in a row to win the game. Still had fun, though. I'm used to losing to Joe; he is good at every sport he plays.

Papaw Bob used up all of his hot air to blow up the bouncy ball for Gabe and Keira. They had to make sure he was doing it right.

Gabe, did you have fun at your birthday party? I think this face says it all, and makes all of my hard work so worth it:

That cake is awesome! I did a theme party for Michael this year. First time I actually had games and everything. I'm always inviting more adults than children to my kids parties and this year I decided to change things up a bit. It's good to do that every now and then.
It really looks like Gabe and his guests had a blast. I especially love the one with the guy putting the baby doll on the potty seat(or was it a booster seat?). Totally Frame-able!

Looks like a great party! That was a very cool cake.
I don't know if I missed something but I really like the new look. I suits for very well.
Have not seen you around very much. Everything alright? I sure it is just the business of school starting and birthdays, I guess I am saying you are missed. :)

Funny we both posted about our kids parties today. Hmmmm, trying to figure out whom did the most work. hee hee

That boy is so cute, all the kids are.

Hmmmmmmmm, I guess I should get some cake for my daughter, she gets so jipped. One of my daughters and I share the same birthday (next week), so Cheyenne always gets to celebrate hers with cake a week late with us!! lol Saves money, well sometimes it does.

So many things...

First, I LOVE your makeover--it's all chic and girly and classy and sassy.

Secondly, Aunt Chelle is my hero. Um, a whole bowl of mac & cheese with a candle in it? That's MY kind of birthday dish. Yum!

Third, you have The Guess Who playing on your blog. I love you.

Finally, Gabe is so stinkin' adorable I can hardly stand it. I think I need to hug him. For real.
